National Golden Retriever Day
Happy National Golden Retriever Day everyone! Your furry best friend gets their own national holiday this Thursday, February 3rd, 2022.
To celebrate National Golden Retriever day, we here at Fire Hydrant Pet Sitting would like to share some fun facts on this celebratory day.

Did you know...
- Golden Retrievers love the outdoors. In the 17th century, they were initially bred to aid the Scottish hunters. They would retrieve the birds during the hunts in the marshlands. This makes our furry friends great at detection, swimming, and fetching.
- With our furry friend’s fur, try to brush them out once or twice a week with a slicker brush to prevent loads of fur from falling onto the furniture. By the time their heavy shedding occurs, bathe them to help wiggle the fallen hairs off and wait until they are fully dried to brush them again.
- There is a Golden Retriever Club of America you can join where other people share the same love for their companion as much as you do. The club offers educational articles, resources, and advice from pet owners regarding Golden Retrievers both in America and across other countries.
- There are three types of Golden Retrievers: American, Canadian, and English. To tell the difference, the Canadian Golden Retrievers are taller and leaner with a darker coat. An English Golden Retriever have a cream color coat as opposed to a golden shine. The American Golden Retriever are more muscular than the Canadian and have a rich golden color coat than the English.
- Golden Retrievers were rescuers during the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York. Our four-legged heroes successfully located firemen and civilians within the rubble with their strong sniffing ability and great detection skills.
Spend time with your companion on National Golden Retriever Day by doing what they love to do. Go on a bike ride with them. Have a long walk in a new, beautiful area. Bake them their favorite treats. Relax with an Air Bud movie and lots of cuddles and snuggles.
Happy National Golden Retriever Day, from the Fire Hydrant Pet Sitting team!
